Preparing to volunteer at Farm of Hope in Ghana is an exciting journey. As of 2026, Ghana remains one of Africa's most stable and welcoming destinations, often called "Africa for Beginners" because of its safety and the legendary hospitality of its people.

Ghana is located in West Africa, on the Gulf of Guinea, and currently has a population of approximately 35.7 million (2026). The capital is Accra, situated in the southeast of the country along the coast. The neighboring countries are Togo, Burkina Faso, and Ivory Coast. Accra remains the primary destination for many travelers. Other major cities include Kumasi, Tamale, Takoradi, and Ashaiman.

Join the Team: Volunteer Requirements (2 programs)

Becoming a volunteer at the Farm of Hope is a significant commitment that requires the right mindset. To ensure the safety of our children and the quality of our programs, we look for the following:

1. Essential Qualifications

  • Language Proficiency: Good English skills (spoken and written) are essential, as English is the primary language used for instruction and communication at our project sites.
  • Age Requirement: We welcome volunteers aged 16 and above.
    Note for minors: Volunteers under 18 may require written parental consent and, depending on the specific program, might need to be accompanied by an adult or show high levels of maturity.
  • Criminal Background Check: As we work with children, all volunteers must provide a clean Police Clearance Certificate (Polizeiliches Führungszeugnis) before arrival.

2. Commitment to Preparation

Preparatory Seminars: Success on the ground starts at home. All volunteers are required to participate in our preparatory seminars. These sessions cover:

  • Cultural sensitivity and Ghanaian customs.
  • Health and safety protocols (including Malaria and Yellow Fever guidance).
  • An overview of the "Help for Self-Help" philosophy.

3. Your Role: Educational Support

Your primary focus will be supporting our local staff in Educational Support. This is not limited to traditional teaching; it includes:

  • Assisting local teachers in the classroom.
  • Helping children with homework and literacy.
  • Leading creative workshops (Arts, Music, or Sports).
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for the children.
